Insulator Science Experiment

Will bubble wrap keep Alysha's hand warm?
Is the shredded paper keeping Bilaal's hand from getting cold?

Jaden has only the protection of the thin ziplock bag
from the freezing cold ice.

Recording their answers.
:) means it kept their hand warm
:( means it didn't keep their hand warm

Kylee does the jean material experiment.

Anthony's glove it filled with crisco.
Crisco is used to show how an animal's
blubber keeps it warm in the cold weather.

Ms. Montez's class joined us in the Science Lab.

Literacy Centers

Chris reading Little Bill.
CJ and Ana listen to Tacky the Penguin on tape.
When they finished they illustrated their favorite part
in their Writing Journals.

Christina, Kristy and Trey work on changing a word's
ending sound to make a new word.
Ex: bus --> bug

Busy working

Mia using an overhead marker to complete the language games.

Bilaal is cleaning the game off for the next person.

Ana is arranging the sentence in the correct order.
Then she writes the sentence in her Writing Journal.

Kylee and Bailey are reading around the room while
they work on their passwords.

Hall-o-gram Party Day

Everyone with their purses or "murses" filled with /Pp/ objects.
We read Lilly's Plastic Purple Purse by Kevin Heinkes.
Then we made our own and filled them with objects
that start with the letter p. They had to draw and label
their objects. The boys got a kick out of it.
Dr. Beaird came to party and play with us too. He was
definitely a pro at Mia's Bop It game.

Evan, Bilaal and Mohammad playing with cars.
Everybody was playing and having fun!

I brought in some of my toys that were my
favorites when I was a kid... you might recognize them
as the Maple Town and Sylvanian Family dolls.

Pajama and Pancake Day for /Pp/ Week

We did an accelerated math fraction lesson.
We not only cut our pancakes in halves but
we cut them into fourths and even eighths!
They got the concept, it was great!

Finally getting to eat the math lesson!

Penguins with Bits of Snowflakes

Kain compared to an Emperor pengiun. Beautiful snowflakes!
(just pour glue thickly onto wax paper
and then sprinkle with glitter. Let it dry for
24 hours and peel carefully)

Everyone pretending to be a daddy pengiun taking care of their egg.

The father pengiun keeps the egg off of the ice
and warm until it hatches. So, that is what we are doing!

Snowman Building Race - Ordinal Numbers

To review ordinal numbers 1st-5th we had a snowman building race. I timed each group and then we put their scores in order from the fastest time to the slowest time (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th).

Three Little Kittens

Our nursery rhyme for this week was The Three Little Kittens and the kids absolutely loved acting it out. I have the book on tape and the narrator sings it to a tune and music - it's really cute.

When I taught 2nd grade one of my favorite things to do was to teach my class various reader's theaters. We'd practice them all week and then on that Friday we would go perform the plays for Mrs. Faustino's class (pre-k am/pm). It was always a blast and I thought it really taught the 2nd graders tons of important skills (public speaking, fluency, inflection, confidence, how to entertain, etc). So, it is an amazing feeling to know that I can also do the same thing with a younger class!
And what an excellent job they all did - especially for their first time performing (and they must had been so nervous because they were all just in pre-k last year)! It was too cute!

Everyone got a chance to act it out in class. Later, names were drawn to see who got chosen for the different roles (book holder aka "teacher", mom, dad, 3 kittens and the singers/narrators).

Performing for Mrs. Faustino's AM Pre-K class.

Kristy: "teacher"
Evan: dad
Zoish: mom
Trey: kitten
Sarah: kitten
Anthony: kitten

Trey got to perform for his little sister's class and he did an excellent job hamming it up :)
