We have been talking about other words that can be used instead of said... words that are more exciting. We've "put said to bed."

Evan was reading a book to me and he looked at the word said and paused. I was a little confused at first because I knew he recognized said. But before I could help him, he read "Where is my hat?" gasped Ben. I was so impressed that he subsituted said for a more interesting word all by himself. He later did the same thing but used cried and shouted.
